Sustainability Platforms

Education and Academic

BESI programs incorporate opportunities for training and education, including hands-on training and tours for students at BESI facilities. This platform provides support and outreach to the other BESI sustainability platforms to make them impactful to every community – from CEO to researcher to student to environmental activist, these programs are tailored to be accessible.

Training and education in sustainability is not limited to engineering or environmental studies. Students in business and management, hospitality, finance, and even government relations benefit in a myriad of ways from understanding BESI climate tech innovations and solutions. As part of this effort, the US DoD is partnering with us and developing internship programs for students working on BESI projects.

Designated as a priority on a global scale, BESI is advancing its expansion of laboratory facilities to university locations. In addition to working with island communities on sustainability, BESI also works with environmental advocacy groups as well as university campuses in Hawaii. BESI programs are currently underway with historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) and minority-serving institutions who are members of research teams as BESI extends its work in applied military applications, sustainable communities, and water.

    Reason for Inquiry?*

Local Governors State University (GSU) hosts BESI events and its faculty work closely with BESI. GSU has provided support on US DoD projects and continues to assist the Sustainability Science Center, an education and outreach facility located at BESI’s laboratory headquarters.

Global BESI outreach includes programs with Karunya University in Coimbatore, India, which has received an A++ rating from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. In these efforts, BESI joins ten other industry-assisted and eight central laboratories and works with many of the twenty-five Technology Missions of Karunya, on emerging technologies, tools dealing with industry, and sustainable development.

Engagement that can benefit university, junior college and vocational training programs are all part of BESI’s work; further to this mission is the Sustainability Science Center, a local not-for-profit which receives support from BESI for its educational foundations, seeking to further the positive impact on the underserved communities local to BESI in meaningful programs for students of all ages.
